73.282 gigaflops per watt

A supercomputer is limited less by the arithmetic it can do than by the electricity it can be given. This is the most arithmetic per watt any machine on the TOP500 has been measured doing - seventy-three billion floating-point operations for every watt drawn, on the same benchmark the speed list uses. The Green500 has been published alongside the TOP500 twice a year since 2013, when its leader managed 3.2. Almost all of the twenty-three-fold gain since then arrived before 2025: the leading figure has risen by three quarters of one per cent since November 2024, and the June 2026 list did not move it at all. Every other machine on this page - the fastest computer, the largest cluster, the largest training run - is a number that grows by drawing more power. This one is the exchange rate, and at the moment it is close to fixed.

That description was written when this frontier was opened, on 2026-09-09, and is never rewritten. Where it and the number above it disagree, the number is the reading and the description is history.

What counts
The energy efficiency of the number one system on the current Green500 list - the machine's Rmax on the TOP500 benchmark divided by the power it drew while setting it. Rank one on the efficiency list, which is almost never rank one on the speed list.
What moves it
A new Green500 list is published, every June and November, with a more efficient machine at rank one.
